Fifteen pieces. One of the most sought-after coffee services in American mid-century design. Ernest Sohn's Octagon — complete.

This is a complete vintage coffee service in the Octagon pattern by Ernest Sohn Creations, New York. Vitrified china, made in USA. Circa 1958–early 1960s. The set includes: electric percolator with cord (in working condition), lidded sugar bowl, creamer, and twelve mugs — fifteen pieces in total, not counting lids or cord. One set available.

The Octagon shape was inspired by George I era coffee pots of the 18th century, reinterpreted by Sohn in the clean geometry of mid-century modernism. Each piece has the graduated octagonal form and the metal pinecone finial that define this pattern — a traditional symbol of hospitality, and here a masterpiece of restrained elegance. The bottom is embossed with the Ernest Sohn Creations logo and stamped "Made in USA."

Ernest Sohn Creations was founded in 1951 in New York by Ernest Sohn, a German immigrant who came to the US in 1936. He partnered with Hall China, Red Wing Pottery, Glidden, and others to bring his designs to life, opening a showroom on Fifth Avenue that became one of the most celebrated addresses in American tableware. Several of his designs received awards and are included in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art. He retired in 1978 and died in May 2006 at age 92.

Some gold wear on the percolator and sugar finials — consistent with use and heat. A few mugs show slight signs of use. All photographed. This set ships heavy — expect two to three boxes.
